We are mourning about Thomas Neuhaus
The theory group of the physics department of Bielefeld University is mourning about our colleague Dr. Thomas Neuhaus who died suddenly and unexpected on June 1st 2015.
Thomas received his PhD in 1985 from the RWTH Aachen. In his thesis he was working on the famous Higgs sector of the standard model of particle physics, being one of the pioneers of lattice gauge theory in Germany. After a first postdoc at the Florida State University in Tallahassee and its Supercomputing Research Institute Thomas served Bielefeld University as research assistent and lecturer for more than seven years. Further stations in his research career have been Wuppertal University, The Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen, Helsinki University, the Center for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF) in Bielefeld and Aachen again, before he settled at the Institute for Advanced Simulation (IAS) at the Research Center Juelich. Over all the years Thomas stayed in close connection with our Theoretical Physics group literally spending his holidays here to work on joint projects as e.g. the heavy quark diffusion constant lately.
Thomas has made a lot of important contributions to the research area of numerical simulations of field theories, ranging from Higgs phenomena and quantum electrodynamics to algorithm development, superconductors and more general statistical mechanics questions.
Much too early we are loosing a passionate researcher strongly devoted to physics, an unpretentious colleague, an outstanding personality and a friend.
