At the Faculty of Physics at Bielefeld University is an opening for a Junior Researcher (Akademischer Rat auf Zeit, A13), available from April 1, 2015.
The position deals with the fabrication, characterization and application oft two-dimensional nanomaterials, in particular carbon nanomembranes (CNMs) and graphene. The successful candidate is expected to investigate structure and function, develop and optimize fabrication schemes and explore technological applications.
Prerequisite is a Ph. D. in physics, physical chemistry or materials science, preferably with a focus on nanotechnology. Advantageous is proficiency with the physics and chemistry of two-dimensional systems and practical experience with UHV surface analysis, in particular scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), electron and ion microscopy (SEM, HIM). It is expected that the successful candidate develops his/her own individual research profile and will eventually acquire his/her own research grants. The successful candidate also has the opportunity to perform a habilitation. The appointment is temporary for three years and can be prolonged for further three years.
